“Dr. Dwight De Risi is a wonderful, kind and thorough doctor. After months of tests, numerous mammography places & other doctors. I finally found Dr. De Risi, he was so gentle and calming. I had to have a surgical biopsy on calcifications, but before he made that decision he had me go to get a stereotactic biopsy at Nassau Radiology (they are also wonderful) , he wanted to be sure that the surgery was 100% necessary before doing it. It was necessary and he and his staff made me feel very calm. The surgery went well and thankfully they came back benign. Dr. Derisi left me with no visible scar. When we received the diagnosis of breast cancer, naturally we wanted a second opinion. Dr. De Risi not only thought it was a good idea, but he sincerely encouraged it and told us that the more information one gets the better. His exact words:  It is your body…not mine. You are entitled to the best treatment you can get. We went to Dr. David Kinne, formerly chairman at Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital and at the time Professor at Columbia University. He operates successfully on my mother. We got all the slides and mammograms for the visit and had them restudied at Columbia. Dr. Kinne said, “If you have Dr. De Risi as your doctor you certainly don’t need me. He is the finest doctor. One thing: if you have to wait…it is worth it. He works through the night.” Back to Dr. De Risi…..the office will tell you if they are running behind and tell you to go out and have dinner first and come back later. De Risi takes the time with each patient that he needs and when it is your turn you get the same excellent treatment that everyone else got. Bottom line: It is over six years and there is no reoccurrence and my wife would travel to New York from Florida, where we now live, to continue seeing Dr. De Risi. He is a man of compassion, dedication, intelligence, and relates to both the patient and her family in the most friendly and encouraging manner.”

It is well worth the wait at the office. I had a double mastectomy in 2004 for early stage breast cancer. Dr. DeRisi was the last of 4 breast surgeons and 2 medical oncologist that I consulted with; including one surgeon at Sloan Kettering who made me cry. Because I was such an early stage, I had too many choices.
